Zdarsky shines a light on Riri in particular and she has a touching moment with Spider-Man that reminds us what makes a hero isn’t their powers, but what is in their heart. Black Panther, Ironheart, and Hawkeye all get moments to shine in this issue. The main story delivers on many lingering plot elements and integrates the many heroes well. In between is a nice collage of all 299 covers prior to this issue which helps make the overall package feel important as the series reaches this milestone. The backup is created by Zdarsky, Goran Parlov and Giada Marchisio and has a touching–and funny–story with Black Cat. The main story runs 34 pages by Zdarsky with art by Adam Kubert and Juan Frigeri and it’s all about Tinkerer’s big plans. The overall package feels well worth the price. Doom shows up! Fine, you have my attention. Zdarsky is clearly trying to fix that with a complex story that defies time and space. The Tinkerer is the villain of choice here and given he was Spider-Man’s second villain ever it’s a shame he’s not more memorable. Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast! In a Precepts-like method, Jen asks us to seek God’s wisdom and teaching first. Jen Wilkin has something I have been wanting to see for a while in “popular” Christian, women authors – a deep love for Scripture and a dedication to teach women how to understand it on their own. So when our church did her podcast-based study on 1, 2, and 3 John called Abide, I was excited to hear her Bible teaching in conjunction with my personal Bible study. This book encouraged us to repent of all the ways that we’ve tried to become God in these areas of our lives. I was first introduced to her book None Like Him: 10 Ways God is Different from Us (And Why That’s a Good Thing) in which she brilliantly explained our human limitations when it comes to characteristics such as omnipotence, sovereignty, and self-sufficiency. If you’ve spent much time around me, you’ll know that I’ve been gradually becoming more and more a fan of every Bible resource that Jen Wikin has put out in the past couple years.
